Why I decided to choose to study over working abroad?

I always dream to have a degree.
Year 2010 I started to study at Rizal Technological University . I’m taking BS Electrical Engineering .

I finished my first year.

When I turned 19,I stopped to pursue my education for a while to serve the Lord as missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints for a period of two years.

I was called to serve in Philippines Butuan mission where I need to learn how to speak Cebuano language. As a missionary, I learned how to love people around me, how to help and inspire them with the message of the restoration of the gospel.

I was assigned in various leadership positions and attended in many trainings. This helped me to become more mature and responsible.

I finished my two years ministry in the Lord’s vineyard. I also learned how to speak Cebuano and adopt some of the culture of Davao, Caraga , and northern Mindanao region where I was assigned.

I returned home and thought of pursuing to finish my studies but there’s a financial challenge. And so I looked for a work here in Manila but unfortunately, I found none.

I decided to apply abroad and I was lucky enough to be accepted in one of the popular and busiest printing companies in Taiwan. I chose to work abroad so I can save money for a less period of time to support myself financially when I will continue to pursue my education.

Living in abroad is not easy. You will always miss home, family, friends and most especially, the food that you always want to eat.

As many OFW said “sa picture lang kami masaya” “saka lang nakakalimot ng lungkot pag malapit na ang sahod.”

Honestly, I almost forgot my plan to go back to college because I’m already earning more than enough, and knowing that almost all of my co-workers have already a degree. It made me feel like going back to college will not help me anymore.

This year, before the start of the enrollment. I came to a realization that I need to stick to my plan that I have written few years ago, and that is, I will go back to college.

It was a difficult decision for me that time to decide and choose whether to have enough money or to have a degree. I asked my employer for an early termination of my contract that supposed to end by November to simply catch the enrollment, hoping that my savings are enough to continue my study again.

When I was enrolling, I was surprised about the BP-LLL or Bridging Program for Life Long Learners. The program states that before I can begin to pursue a degree, I need to study a year under College of Arts and Sciences then I will be formally turnover to the respective college that I will belong. What more surprising is that, no subject will be credited to the subject I took before. I was disappointed at that time 😥. It seems like I failed with my decision and all I’m just thinking is that, the LLL adds to the burden that I have in pursuing my dream to have a degree. The only goods news that I heard that time is, the tuition fee is free!👍👍

School days began, little by little I started to understand more about the program. I forgot about the year that will be added. I started to love it instead knowing that almost all of us had the same story as I am. I would like to thank all my classmates who made me realized that I am not alone. 😇😇
I have learned that it will take patience to understand things and it will take time to get what you want to achieve. Life is not a race, enjoy the beauty of its journey!😊😊😊
